Rosendale House

Rosie Rebels – Pretty Muddy 5k

In Summer 2024, the amazing team at Rosendale House in Worcestershire, decided to participate in the Pretty Muddy 5k for Race for life to raise money for Cancer Research!

Here’s what our Rosendale House team said about the day:

The Build Up

“Part of our team and one of our young people had participated in this last year and said it was great fun, so we got a team together so we could get stuck in again this year. Myself (Hayley Roberts) and another team member Ben Sherlock participated with two of our young people and we all had a blast!

Our Deputy Manager came up with the perfect team name, the Rosie Rebels!

On the lead up to the 5k the support workers started training, taking regular trips to the gym as well as starting to run outdoors (neither of us were previously gym goers nor even particularly into fitness at all). We pushed ourselves and soon started managing to complete 5k every time we went for a run which was a huge personal achievement for us both. During the lead up we encouraged our young people to start training along with us, which they did a handful of times.

We made sure we spread the word and shared our team fundraising page far and wide to raise money for this amazing cause. We had so many amazing people sponsor us all for this run which was fantastic, and we couldn’t have been more grateful for each and every person’s support. I must give a special shout out to Ben Sherlock as he raised a whopping £730 towards our team!

Overall, I would highly recommend to anyone that is thinking about participating in something like this. You should do it because it is a wonderful experience and an amazing cause that effects so many people.”

Race Day!

“On the day of the race, we were blessed with beautiful sunshine at the start!”

“We arrived at Pitchcroft Racecourse where the event was being held. The atmosphere was amazing and everywhere you looked was PINK. We saw groups in crazy costumes and tutu’s and so many different people bonding over their experiences and why they were there to participate in race for life.

Our time came and everyone participating in the 1:30pm was called to the stage. We were told that Worcester alone had raised over £140,000 which was outstanding! We also listened to some beautiful stories about those who had beaten cancer thanks to the dedication and support of everyone raising money for cancer research.

Next, they got some music blasting, and everyone did a really fun warm up together before heading to the starting line. The started up The Greatest Show from the Greatest Showman and had this pumping through the speakers and everyone started cheering. Before we knew it, we were off. Our young people sprinted off without delay but me and Ben soon overtook them with our weeks of training fuelling us and the thought of a nice hot KFC dinner after we’d finished!

There were 12 obstacles throughout the course, each one muddier and more challenging than the previous, and just to add to it all we were blasted with water guns as well.”

“We worked together and cheered each other on when we were struggling. And then the rain started… luckily this was quite nice because it showered us a little bit. We finally reached the final obstacle which was a huge inflatable slide into a mud pit. All five of us when through this together before finally crossing the finish line and received our medals.”

“It was a fantastic day, and we were all so proud of each other for raising the money and absolutely smashing the run on the day.”

A massive congratulations to the Rosie Rebels and all of the Rosendale House team. Thank you for everything you do!
